Lord Dakshinamurti - Mahadeva as the supreme guru

Lord Shiva

The four sons of Lord Brahma, Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana, and Sanat Kumara were blessed with great intellects and were also learned in the sacred Vedas. However, despite this they were unable to understand the nature of God, the supreme power.

After seeking many teachers, devatas and rishis, they finally came to Lord Shiva who sat silently under a Banyan tree and with one foot on the ground and the other folded under his other pressed under the other leg, gazed at the four seekers.

In that silence, all the knowledge of the world was passed on to the four. Lord Shiva is called Dakshinamurti in this aspect. He is the highest among the teachers.

May the ever youthful Lord Daskshinamurti who dispels all doubts of seekers and returns them to the bliss of Sadchidananda bless us all!
