Shri Radhe Maa - Poet Rahim and his love for Lord Rama

Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana (17 December 1556 – 1626) who is known simply as Rahim to lovers of Hindi poetry, was a friend of Goswami Tulsi Das, the author of the Ram Charit- Manas. Born a Muslim, Rahim had a great affinity and fondness for Hindu culture, philosophy and religion. A doha by Rahim praises the glory of Ram-naam:

Gahi sarnagati Ram ki, bhavsagar ki naav
Rahiman jagat-uddhaar ko, aur na kou upai

Except for the refuge of Lord Rama, the boat across the sea of maya
O Rahim, there is no other way of transcending this world

Another doha praises Lord Krishna's greatness:

Jo gharib ko hith kare, dhani Rahim te log
Kahan Sudama bapuro, Krishna-mitai jog

Those who do good to the deprived are the truly wealthy
As was Krishna, who chose to be friends with poor Sudama

May the example of Abdul-Rahim-Khan-i-Khana inspire us to a life of devotion to Lord Rama, the refuge of the fallen!
