Jai Mata Padmavati Mahalakshmi IIT Mumbaiwaali!

The Mata Padmavati temple inside the IIT campus in Mumbai has a recorded history till the tenth century but is understood to be even older. According to inscriptions found near the temple the temple was originally home to a Shiva Linga that was worshiped and maintained by a local chief named Simhappa who generously donated agricultural land that houses the present IIT campus.

It was Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj who is said to have undertaken the praan pratishtaan of the idol of Goddess Padmavati idol after which the temple became known as the Padmavati temple. Padmavati Devi is considered a powerful Yakshini and protectress of the Jainas and is therefore revered by people of the Jaina faith.

The temple also houses idols of Lord Nagajeshwara Mahadev and Lord Ganesha.

May Mata Padmavati bless us with an abundance of wealth, health and love! Jai Mata Di! Har Har Mahadev!
