celebrate a festival of lights like our very own Diwali. Jews celebrate
Hanukkah, also known as Festival of Lights and Feast of
Dedication. Hanukkah is an eight-day holiday, which marks
the re-dedication of a Jewish temple in 2nd century BC. A special
lamp called the menorah is lighted on Hanukkah.
The candles on the menorah are lit one a day so that on the eighth day all candles are lit.
Special
fried foods and bakery favorites like donuts filled with chocolate,
cream, jam and vanilla are made on Hanukkah that are a big hit with children.
The seven-branched menorah is among the most recognized symbols of Judaism.
